Privacy policy

Short version: Purrlet has no account and no analytics, and your usage stays on your Mac.

Last updated October 10, 2026

This policy covers the Purrlet app for macOS, the license server it talks to once, and this website. Purrlet is made by Daniel Nebreja. Questions: purrlet@nocturnab.com.

The app

What it reads, on your Mac

  • Claude: the sign-in Claude Code already saved on your Mac (in your Keychain, or in ~/.claude/.credentials.json), read each time Purrlet asks Anthropic for your usage. It is never written to disk, cached, logged or refreshed by Purrlet.
  • Codex: Purrlet asks the Codex app on your Mac for your rate limits and account, and nothing else.
  • Never: your prompts, chats, code or files.

What it sends, and where

  • Your Claude usage check goes directly from your Mac to Anthropic (api.anthropic.com), using Claude Code's sign-in. It is read-only and spends no quota. Turn off “Always fresh” in Settings and Purrlet stops making it.
  • License activation, once: your license key and an anonymous code for your Mac (a SHA-256 hash of its hardware ID, never the ID itself) go to purrlet.nocturnab.com. Deactivating a Mac sends the key and that activation's ID.
  • Nothing about your usage is ever sent to us or to anyone else. There are no analytics or crash reporters.

What it keeps

Your recent readings, your settings and your license file stay in ~/Library/Application Support/Purrlet and the app's preferences. Delete the app and that folder to remove them.

If you choose to turn on Claude Code's status line as an extra source, Purrlet edits only the statusLine entry of ~/.claude/settings.json, after saving a backup, and restores it when you turn it off.

The license server

To let one key work on two Macs, and to let a reinstall reuse its slot, the server keeps, per activation:

  • a one-way hash of your license key (not the key itself),
  • the anonymous code for your Mac described above,
  • the activation's ID at our payment provider,
  • a masked hint of your purchase email (like “d•••@example.com”), shown in the app's Settings,
  • and the date.

It also counts downloads and activations per day, as plain totals. It does not store IP addresses. Ask us and we'll delete your activation records, which also frees your Macs' slots.

Payments

Purchases are handled by Dodo Payments, our merchant of record. They collect your payment details, email address and billing country to take the payment, charge the right tax and send your receipt and license key, under their own privacy policy. We see your order, but never your card details.

This website

The site sets no cookies. It uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits and referrers without cookies and without identifying you. Your light or dark choice is remembered in your browser's local storage, on your device only. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which keeps standard request logs for security.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. A change to what the app sends would also be described in the app's release notes.
